Tools to Help Select a Journal for Submission

Nurse Authors & Editors

The International Academy of Nursing Editors (link) is a collective of nursing editors and publishers focused on meeting the practice, research, and education needs of the nursing profession.

They provide a Directory of Nursing Journals along with descriptions of each journal.  This resource provides a one-stop place to review the scope and intent of the journal to determine which one is appropriate to submit your manuscript to.

A 2017 article by two of your Cone Health teammates discusses how to choose the right journal for your article and utilizes data from the INAE site.

1. Read the article here:

Choosing the right journal for your article. Jenkins, M. Nursing Made Incredibly Easy!. 15(1):23-25, January/February 2017.
(Contact the Medical Library for a copy of an article

2. Next, there are two options to find possible titles.

  1. Click HERE to go to the Directory of Nursing Journals. Scan through the descriptions to determine areas of scope and intent.

  2. Download this Excel file with a list of titles and descriptions where Ctrl-F can be used to search for keywords to locate titles mentioning those keywords.  The above article references a Word document that was created when the INAE Directory was using a different format.  It has since been updated to the link in #1 above.  And this Excel sheet was updated on Sept. 8, 2023.
